Low temperature tests

The low temperature properties of rubber materials are very important, especially for rubber products used in colder climates. The requirements for these properties have since long been included in specifications, especially in the automotive industry.

For rubber materials there are four important standardised test methods for low temperatures: TR test according to ISO 2921, Gehman test according to ISO 1432, brittleness test according to ISO 812, and low temperature compression set according to ISO 815‑2.

Elastocon offers automatic computerised low temperature testers that increase the precision up to 5 times. Also, the capacity increases by about 50 % and the labour time decreases by about 75 %.

TR tester, ET 01-II

TR tester, ET 01-II, for determination of low temperature characteristics by the temperature retraction procedure according to ISO 2921 and ASTM D1329.

Gehman tester, ET 02-II

Gehman tester, ET 02-II, for determination of the relative stiffness characteristics of vulcanized or thermoplastic rubbers, also called the Gehman procedure. The test is done according to ISO 1432, ASTM D1053, or equivalent standards.

Brittleness tester, ET 05-II

Brittleness tester, ET 05-II, for automatic determination of brittleness point according to ISO 812, ASTM D2137 and equivalent standards.

Combined low temperature testers

The TR tester, Gehman tester and brittleness tester can be combined using the same base unit and a rig changing system.

Automatic cooling with liquid nitrogen, ET 01.02

The automatic cooling with liquid nitrogen, ET 01.02, consists of both the cryogenic vessel for the storing of liquid nitrogen and the special valve and hose that is needed for the connection between the vessel and the Low Temperature Tester.

Adjustable table for low temperature testers, ET 01.08

The adjustable table ET 01.08 is suitable for Elastocon's low temperature testers ET 01-II, ET 02-II and the base unit for combined low temperature testers.

Low Temperature Compression Set Rig, EV 09

EV 09 is a rig for the determination of the compression set characteristics of vulcanized and thermoplastic rubbers at low temperatures according to ISO 815-2 or other technically equivalent standards.

Conversion kit for freezers, ET 03.01-6

With the ET 03.01-6 conversion kit all of Elastocon’s laboratory freezers can be adapted for 6 test rigs, for testing either in low temperature compression set with our EV 09 rig or in stress relaxation with our EB 02 rig.

Software for Low Temperature Compression Set, EC 10

Low temperature compression set (LTCS), EC 10. Monitors the temperature during the test time and records the recovery when the test piece is released.
