The laboratory roll mill Polymix is a compact machine for mixing all types of plastic and rubber material. The machine is successfully used for research, development and quality control all over the world.
Roll mills are available in different roll diameters 110, 150 and 200 mm. The basic machine allows mixing under constant working conditions. Customer requirements can be met with numbers of options.
For plastic process the sizes 110L and 150L are mainly used and for all rubber process the 200L is the optimal version.
Technical specification, laboratory roll mill Polymix
Rolls
The rolls are made of chrome alloy steel in tooling quality. They are surface hardened for high hardness. Precision grinding with a surface laid out for rubber processing. Bearing blocks are mounted in rigid steel frames; rolls are running in heavy-duty roller bearings.
Grease lubrication for long maintenance periods. Working area is determined on the front roll by polished material guides made of cast iron.
Drive system
High-power drives with increased torque for high mixing forces. Single drives for both rolls located below the roll unit for compact design. Power transmission is done by roller chains which are both installed on one side of the roll unit to maintain full separation. The basic machine comes with two fixed speeds and a constant friction (Drive S). As an option the speed can be made adjustable for free setting of speed and friction.
Gap adjustment
The front roll is in a fixed position to ensure easy access to the rolls. The rear roll is moved with a central adjustment system. A toggle-lever system leads to high forces within the working range (0.3 – 8 mm, shown on gauges) as well as to a quick E-Stop opening (up to 50 mm). The system is actuated by roller ball screws and an AC-motor.
Safety concept
The safety layout has been developed together with German safety associations and meets the latest European safety norms. A safety cage is laid out as a tube to feed material from overhead. Two safety levers along the roll gap with improved and optimized position lead to an enforced tripping in case of danger. Two additional knee switches are installed on both front and rear side. The E-Stop system consists of spring operated brakes and an automatic quick gap opening within max. 3 seconds.
Heating
The rolls are laid out for circulating water to allow heating or cooling. Maintenance free rotary unions are used for the fluid, peripheral bores ensure an excellent temperature transfer. A water-heating unit can be delivered for temperatures up to 90 °C. A closed-loop control provides automatic heating and cooling. Water supply and drain is done with internal tubes, electric supply comes from the machine control.
Basic layout
- Drives, lubrication system and the electrical enclosure are mounted in a frame. Rotating parts and the frame are covered with hoods, however easy access for service is possible.
- The enclosure can be opened from the side and contains the electric parts.
- Operating elements and controllers are located in a central panel besides the roll unit.
- Operation from both front and rear side is possible by turning the panel.
- Wiring for 3x400/230 VAC (N&PE, neutral required for 230 V heating supply) according to the latest VDE-regulations
- Threecolour-painting in light grey (covers), dark blue (hoods) and coral red (working area).
- The machine will be delivered with all integrated controls.
